Tort or “wrong” has three categories: intentional torts, unintentional torts (negligence), and strict liability (Cheeseman, 2007).
A tort that has occurred in my workplace is intentional torts against persons such as assault and battery. “The law protects a person from unauthorized touching, restraint, or other contact” (Cheeseman, 2007, p. 93). Within my workplace, we deal with unruly individuals that have had their property seized or impounded. We commonly have assaults and batteries against our staff. The company has developed certain security procedures to follow in order to minimize the risk to staff; however, occasionally we still encounter dangers.
