iHuman Assignment Reflection

Upon evaluating the Healthy People 2030 it is crucial that the financial enablers for the patients be evaluated. That means they may very likely fail to get the medications that they require due to not being insured or being underinsured. This can stall a disease and lead to easily preventable consequences. For instance, the patient in this week’s case study was diagnosed with PUD due to H. Pylori. The particular treatment in my plan included PPI as well as two antibiotics. If the client’s insurance coverage was not evaluated and I sent the medications to the pharmacy and the client could not afford it he may not have taken the medication. This could have resulted in worse results from the untreated disease. For the client, I would have to treat him or her differently if they did not have insurance cover. I would have had to think of the least that could be offered to the client in terms of health treatment. Instead of sending acetaminophen to the pharmacy, I might order OTC Tylenol or OTC multivitamins as the case may be. These tend to be cheaper. It also carries some OTC PPI like Prilosec OTC for example. Omeprazole ranges between $30 and $50 per bottle on average. Azithromycin would cost an average of thirty-three dollars for the fourteen days supply. Clarithromycin would cost $140 for a 14-day quantity. When sending the prescription, I would have to include the brand name with it. The cost of the drug formulated depends on the pharmacy of your choice.

Some of the drug discount programs include good rx where people get coupons for drugs. Pharmacies in the Virgin Islands do not work with good rx coupons as far as I can tell. The patients who cannot afford their prescription must sign up for Medicaid or Medicare. There is also the 340b program that provides for the cost of the medications for the uninsured clients and the copays for the clients.
