Research Proposal: The Impact of the Vietnam War on American culture
Abstract
The research has been carried to elaborate the effects of Vietnam War on the American society and their culture. The purpose of this study is to point out the effects that it posed on the culture of America and the way it changed the lives of the people of America. The population for this piece of research is the entire American population and the sample is the population of those people who were the eye witness of this war and who witnessed the most powerful counterculture movement in the American history. This war showed a new a new direction in the politics, culture and society to the generation. The research is qualitative in nature as it focused to bring out the effects on every aspects of the American society.
1. Introduction
Purpose of study: The purpose of the study is to reflect the effects of the Vietnam war on the culture and life of the American society.
Context of the study: The research has been carried out in context of the historical evidence available in the books and the websites relating to the information about the Vietnam War.
Problem Statement: The Reason behind this research is to point out those issues that cause a counterculture movement in the history of America. The series of events that led to the war and how they brought the effects of the war into play on the American society.
Significance of the study: This research will surely guide to discover the various facts about the war of Vietnam and how these effects caused the American society to change, specially the hippie movement that played a momentous role in bringing the change in the American culture.
2. Literature Review
Introduction: I have cited the work of the various authors who have presented a detail account in their literature about the causes of the Vietnam War and the effects this war caused on the Culture and living style of the people of America.
Background Discussion: various scholars have presented have their own account of the Vietnam War and provided interesting information about the war. According to Daum, Gardener and Mausbach, The war of Vietnam was not just a issue about the America, It penetrated into the American society and embodied various wars for the America, it also radiated into the world politics and permeated the domestic political settings and cultural discourses in many countries to a greater degree. The same account has been provided by Orrin Schwab in his book. He explained that the war coincided with the modern African American civil rights movement, which became deeply confrontational at the same time that Lyndon Johnson ordered the escalation of the war in 1965. According to Micah Issit, the Hippie movement rise in the 1960’s and inspired many teenaged American to join the hippie rebellion. According to Linda Watts, hippies challenged virtually all the assumptions of the prevailing society, as members of the counterculture came of age.
3. Research Methodology
Research Methodology: Being qualitative in nature the literature of the various scholars has been studied for the research process.
Research design: The research has been carried with the help of the review of the literature of the various scholars.
Population and Sample: The population of the research is the American citizens and the sample is those people who have been part of the hippie movement at the time of Vietnam War.
Research Instrument: The research instruments comprise of the literature reviews of the scholars that have been studied for the research purpose.
Procedure for data collection: The literature of every individual writer has been selected and studied to reflect its point of view in the research.
Data analysis and Interpretation: Data has been analyses in the light of the information provided by the different scholars. The data has been categorized in to different sections for usage.
Limitations of the study: The study has been limited to the literature review and other literature that has highlighted the effects of the Vietnam War on the American society.
Validity and Reliability: The data for research process has been adopted from the work of the scholars and articles, in order to prove its validity and reliability.
