Walden University NURS 6001 Foundations for Graduate Study - Professional Development Plan

Professional Growth and Career Advancement Plan

Nursing is a field that I have always sought to expand on. Developing a plan for an enhancement in a particular profession helps in defining both personal and career goals and also gives a clear strategy or plan on how to achieve them. This document accompanies my strides into my master’s studies in technological understanding in Nursing at Walden University with a summary of my education to date, career progression, and professional intentions.

Education and Professional Background

I am Jodi Cote, and I grew up in Fort Kent, a quaint town in northern Maine with only 5000 residents. Fort Kent is home to a forty-bed health facility and The University of Maine at Fortress Kent, renowned for its nursing software. I have a military in the family background; my grandfather was a Medic during World War 2 while my father was a Vietnam War soldier and served in the Maine Army National Guard for 30 years.

I joined The Maine Army National Guard to also grab the educational benefits for myself. I met my husband while working at my unit and we have two gorgeous young boys. I have served 15 years in the military with two tours in Afghanistan, which molded my desire to help veterans and their families.

Journey to Advanced Nursing and Mental Health Advocacy

I commenced my professional journey with an Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. My interest in patient care began when I worked as a nursing aide and walked into the medical institution lab on my night shift. I developed a keen interest in the Emergency Room and was fortunate enough to be offered an economic EMT-Intermediate license. This, however, did not come as easily as it seems.

With my second return, I was able to utilize the post 9/11 GI bill and went back to school. It was then, in 2013, I was able to earn my Bachelor’s in Science Nursing (BSN) and eventually started my nursing career in an Acute Care Unit prior to moving into the Emergency department. It was here, I developed an overwhelming interest in acute care and highbrow health.

Mental Health and Certifications

Living in Maine, I’ve witnessed firsthand the shortage of intellectual health offerings, particularly for veterans. The nearest VA health facility is 250 miles away, making proper access difficult. Those reviews have inspired me to pursue a complicated nursing diploma with an interest in intellectual health to address the unmet goals of those who don’t have one.

At present, I have certifications in vital lifestyles guide (BLS), superior Cardiac life guide (ACLS), Pediatric superior lifestyles guide (pals), and Trauma Nurse middle elegance (TNCC). I, moreover, aim to gain my Emergency Nursing Certification (CEN).

Professional Goals

My private purpose is to develop as a nurse and student while while embracing lifestyle opportunities. Walden College’s flexible software allows me to pursue a perception of generation in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatric and mental fitness Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP). I decided on Walden because it was determined to range the entire curriculum and the real-global software program.

Following the final contact of my PMHNP diploma, I plan to pursue an extra MSN person-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, to further my understanding. In many hospitals, including my very non-public, an increasing number of nurses depend on nurse practitioners as hospitalists and emergency room vendors.

I aspire to artwork for the Veterans Management (VA), imparting quintessential highbrow health services to veterans and their households. Moreover, I aim to enhance the emergency room workers’ perception of highbrow health crises, such as manic episodes and suicide attempts, ensuring compassionate and mighty care.

Course Outcomes

The recommendations for the Graduate test route have enhanced my skills as a graduate student. I’ve determined to navigate Walden College’s pupil portal and use tools like Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve my academic writing.

My goal is to refine my scholarly writing by using the Writing Center, taking elements from webinars, and seeking guidance from writing tutors. This one source will resource my achievement at some unspecified time in the destiny of my graduate research.

Practicum

I have explored several opportunities for my practicum. I’ve related with Melissa Stoliker, PMHNP, who works at Northern Maine Scientific Middle School, which offers a 10-mattress man or woman and seven-mattress pediatric inpatient intellectual clinic. This putting will permit me to finish psychiatric tests for each person and pediatric sufferers.

Furthermore, I’ve contacted the Togus VA clinical center in Augusta, Maine, where I hope to gain experience on their psychiatric floor. I’m obsessed with growing a guide agency for spouses of deployed infantrymen, addressing the disturbing situations of unmarried parenting during a few unspecified deployments in the future and transitioning to family lifestyles post-deployment.
